Breaking Their Hold 02

"who the fuck are you?" a guy yelled at me as he entered the room. he was fairly tall, around 6 feet tall, and his body was fairly muscular. and me at a mere 5'8" with chicken arms, yea i was screwed.

"um...i'm zacky. i was told this was my room." he came closer to me, staring at me as if i was some sort of science project. then he relaxed, his eyes no in an intense stare anymore. he laughed lightly, running his hands through his sandy brown hair.

"sorry bout that," he shrugged, "they didnt tell me i was getting a new roommate." he walked over to his bed, flopping onto its surface. "i'm ektor by the way. but you can call me alex, everyone does." he didnt seem so bad as he talked a bit, but i could see how bert could call him stand-offish. not once did he make eye contact with me. there was an awkward silence for a little bit, until finally he spoke again.

"so zacky, why are you in this glorious place?" he grinned, the sarcasm oozing in his voice.

"my parents made me go here. said i was fucking up too much in public school."

"so you have the same story as pretty much everyone in here then," he grinned. "at least that's mine too anyway. so what did you to to 'fuck up'?"

"failed everything because i slacked off."

"that's it?" he seemed shocked. wonder what he did. soon there was a loud knock at the door, and i heard bert's voice from outside. "ugh, what does he want," alex groaned, and reluctantly went to open the door. in walked bert and two other guys i didnt know. one was i gotta say kinda girly looking, the other was the extreme opposite. this guy was huge! and i thought alex was big.

alex tensed up again as the three walked in, his eyes narrowing. "why are you in here?" he said through gritted teeth. i didnt know which one he was talking to at first, until the big guy walked up next to him, raking his hands roughly through his hair.

"relax varkatzas, im just here to greet the newbie." the big guy walked up to me, extending out his large hand. "sup. im matt." he wore black aviators, shielding me from being able to see his emotion. i put my hand in his,and he gripped tightly giving me a hard shake. it felt like he could easily break my fingers.

"im zacky."

the girly looking guy walked up to me afterwards, luckily his hand shake was lighter.

"hello! im davey," he said with a smile. i smiled back, glad to see a nonthreatening face. alex just sat on his bed, glaring at the group of people.

"dont be such a grouch alex," bert teased, hitting him on the shoulder. he flinched, pulling his legs up into his chest so that his arms were wrapped around them. i was confused why he did this, why did bert of all people make him flinch? i decided it was best not to ask.

"so zack, dinner's about to be...now. wanna come with us, we can introduce you to some more people around here," matt said, as he started to head near the door. i was about to get up and follow them, but i felt bad. i knew they probably didnt want alex to go with them, and i didnt want to leave him.

"nah, i think tonight i'll go with alex. maybe tomorrow?" i looked over and saw alex's eyes brighten up a bit, and i could finally see their color; green.

"whatever you say." they walked out the door, leaving the two of us alone.

"you didnt have to do that you know," alex said, looking at the floor.

"its fine. might as well get to know the person im gonna be living with for the next year," i smiled. he smiled back, and got up from his bed.

"well, lets go get some food then. im starving," he said rubbing his stomach. i heard my own stomach rumbling. guess mine was hungry too. "oh, and dont count on eating with matt tomorrow. the others maybe, but not matt."

"why?"

"he hates me; thinks im a freak. so basically in his mind right now, you chose my side instead of his."

"why does he think that?"

he sighed. "thats a complicated story that i dont want to explain to someone i just met."
